Artisan Sarah Tremaine Demonstrates Nuno Felting Technique
Barn Swallow Artisan Gallery, Sunday June 17, 2018
Demonstrations at 1pm and 3pm
Sarah Tremaine is being introduced as our first participant in the Barn Swallow’s Artisan of the Month series! Her hand-dyed, felted, and silk garments have been featured in our gallery for many years. Sarah uses Nuno felting technique to bring life to fabric. Nuno Felting is a technique first developed by Australian fiber artist Polly Stirling in 1992.
Sarah's demonstrations will take place on Sunday June 17 at 1pm and 3pm at the Barn Swallow Artisan Gallery at 796 Gillums Ridge Rd, Charlottesville, VA, 22903
You can follow our Artisan of the Month series on Facebook and on our website.
Textured Paths—A mother-daughter collaboration
The Barn Swallow is excited about the return of folk artists, Laurie Gunderson, and slow-fiber artist Nellie Rose. These prolific artists' backgrounds are steeped in tradition and contemporary experimentation. They both create textured, wearable, and visual art using Shibori, a Japanese dye technique.
Please join the artists for a reception at the Barn Swallow on Saturday, November 15th from 5 – 7 pm, showcasing their most recent works.
Celebrate fall with a new art exhibit
Three printmakers showcase their nature-influenced work at the Barn Swallow this upcoming month. Lotta Helleberg will display naturally dyed and eco-printed textiles, artist books, and journals. Emily Hancock will bring hand-typeset and letterpress printed poems and other texts, as well as hand-bound journals. Lana Lambert will exhibit intricate Japanese woodblock prints.
Please join us for an opening reception on Sunday, October 5, 2014, from 1 – 3 pm. The artists will offer demonstrations of traditional typesetting, Moku Hanga block printing, and simple book binding techniques.
